The Storm
The attic room still warm from the morning sun darkens.
Flotsam litters the floor as the wind gusts through.
Ozone scents the afternoon air,
A prelude to the coming storm.
Lightning flashes,
Thunder rolls,
A musical act to accompany the evening meal.
Dinner and a show.
Dessert is drizzle and a cool breeze.
Relief from the languid haze perks my brain.
But,
Still,
The cats remain flopped about the bed,
Snoozing and unrepentant,
As I begin to write.

Spring
The wind is whooshing through my window.
Gentle gusts and whistling winds,
Serving notice,
Spring is here!

A Winter's Poem
Busy bee,
To your hive do flee.
Hibernate quick,
Before winter's cold kiss.
Dream of spring and pollen,
And warm sun drops of gold.
4/6/10: I guess bees don't really hibernate. they become torpid and form a huge mass in the hive about the size of a football to conserve heat, frequently rotating from inside to outside and back in. However, I am going to let my little poem stand.

Life
Since about Mid-June my health has been stable so I signed up for two classes. I am taking a one day workshop on Indigo Dyeing and an eight week class on surface design (both starting next week). Hopefully my health continues to hold (or improve even). I also signed up for JulNoWriMo which is like NaNoWriMo except it is held in July (which is usually a better month than November for me). Hopefully I have not bitten off more than I can chew. Anyway, I am working on some poetry, but am not ready to throw it up here yet (maybe later today or tomorrow). At least work seems to have slowed down a bit (need to take advantage of that huh?). I had a nice lazy holiday yesterday. My Family (minus one) and a few friends friends (a very multi-generational group) sat out in my mom's yard and we grilled lots of food (including s'mores) and had lots of conversation and laughs. It was really nice (although the evening actually got kind of nippy, we actually had to break out some wraps for everybody). After things wound down a small core group sat on the front porch and watched all the illegal fireworks being set off in our neighborhood (there were actually some really good ones). I don't think I would have wanted to be a cop last night. All in all it was a fun time. Hopefully everybody else out there had a good day yesterday too.

Life
I am back to writing poetry again. I seem to do it in fits or phases. The holidays were busy and I was taking a number of art classes. I took classes in felting, shibori, and katazome. Then, soon after the beginning of the New Year, I got sick. I have been sick on and off ever since (which the timing has been really bad since things were crazy at work until just recently). I haven't signed up for any new classes so far this year. I am hoping that my health will improve before summer truly arrives. If it does I may take another class on indigo dying during the summer session.

The Beach
Lolling languorously,
Limp and Lazy,
I listen lethargically,
Letting the lapping waves,
Lull me into a light snooze.

Fishing
Slick and slimy scales,
Slid out of her hands,
Slapping back into the water,
With a sloppy splash,
Disappointed but not defeated,
She casts out her line,
With a silver flash,
To lure yet another.
4/6/10: I have thought of some small changes. The poem now reads:
Slick and slimy scales,
Slide out of her hands with a sloppy splash,
Disappointed but not defeated,
She casts out her line anew,
A silver flash,
To lure another.

Cats
Lazy summer afternoons,
Listless and lethargic,
Splat against the floor,
Lacking in all decorum,
Hogging the patch of sunlight,
Slanting carelessly through the window,
My cat at his most undignified,
Lies shamelessly sunbathing
**7/5/08 Note to Self: ~made a change on line two (didn't realize I had used the word 'lazy' twice so I changed second 'lazy' to 'lethargic')

It has been a long while since last posting
It has obviously been some time since my last post. I guess it was because I was busy trying to graduate last spring (and I did graduate and recieve my degree), then I was sick, then it was summer (and boy was this summer busy). It is only now that it is almost fall that I have found the time to write anything. So without further adieu here is my recent attempt at getting back into writing poetry:
A sensuous sybarite swam to the shore.
Upon reaching the shallows,
With feet on the sand,
She slowly stood up,
Surveying her path.
Sinuously she stretched,
Arms up in the air,
With a silent woosh,
She grabbed up her hair,
Twisting it tightly and knotting it there.
She sashayed up to the sand,
And struck up her path,
Swaying ever so gently,
She laughed.
This is version 3 of this poem. For the most part I am satisfied with it, though I should probably tweak it a bit more.
